Psychological Assessments for Adults and Children in Calgary
A psychological assessment gives you a clear, evidence-based picture of how your brain works — whether that’s ADHD, autism, or a learning difference — often after years of wondering. Our registered psychologists conduct thorough, individualized assessments for both adults and children, with practical recommendations you can actually use at school, at work, and at home. Assessments are available in person in Calgary or securely online across Alberta.
Adult Autism Assessments
Many people reach adulthood before realising the way they experience the world has a name. An autism assessment in Calgary can bring the self-understanding and validation that so many of our clients describe as life-changing.
Adult ADHD Assessments
If you’ve spent years wondering why focus, follow-through, or managing everyday demands feels harder than it should — an ADHD assessment can finally give you answers. Understanding how your brain works changes everything.
Educational Assessments
Discover your child’s unique learning profile with our psychoeducational assessments. We identify challenges like ADHD and processing disorders, providing practical strategies to support success at school and home.
Child Autism Assessments
An autism diagnosis is not and does not need to be a label; it should be a supportive pathway to empowering your child and helping them thrive and be happy by tailoring support to their unique strengths and challenges.

You Don't Have to Figure it Out Alone
We support individuals, parents, families, and couples with compassionate, evidence-based support for anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, ADHD, identity exploration, relationship challenges, and life transitions.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. We’ll help you find the support that fits.
How Solasta Makes a Difference in Calgary
Our trauma-informed psychologists work with people across Calgary and virtually throughout Alberta — not just to manage symptoms, but to understand what’s actually driving them.
Managing Mental Health Concerns
Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or a diagnosis you’re still making sense of, our registered psychologists provide evidence-based therapy that goes beyond symptom management. We work to understand what’s driving what you’re experiencing, and build practical, lasting strategies around that.
Improving Relationships
Relationship difficulties rarely exist in isolation. Whether you’re working through conflict with a partner, navigating family dynamics, or struggling with how you connect with others, our therapists help you understand the relational patterns that keep showing up — and how to change them.
Enhancing Self-Understanding
Many of our clients arrive knowing something isn’t working but not quite why. Therapy and psychological assessment are both powerful tools for self-understanding — helping you recognise patterns, understand how your mind works, and make choices that are actually aligned with who you are.
Supporting Life Transitions
New job, new city, new relationship, new diagnosis, loss, grief, becoming a parent — transitions can destabilise even people who feel generally well. Our psychologists provide grounded, practical support during the moments when the ground shifts, helping you move through change without losing yourself.
Why People Choose Solasta
Solasta was founded Dr. Gillian McKirdy and Scott McKirdy, both registered psychologists who wanted Calgary to have a practice built around real depth of care — not a volume model. That founding perspective still shapes how the practice runs today.
A large, multidisciplinary team — almost 20 clinicians across counselling and assessments, so you’re matched with the right person for your specific situation rather than whoever’s available.
Both counselling and assessments under one roof — one of the few Calgary practices with genuine expertise in both. If you need therapy after an assessment, or an assessment after therapy, you don’t have to start over somewhere else.
Deep, specialized experience in adult autism assessment — one of Calgary’s most established providers of this specific assessment, with a volume and depth of experience that’s uncommon in the city.
A multicultural, multilingual team — including clinicians who work directly in French, Arabic, Urdu, and Hindi, so clients can access therapy in the language that feels most like home.
Every new client starts with a free 20-minute consultation — a real conversation to see if we’re the right fit, with no obligation.
Most clients book within days — no multi-month waitlist for most services.

FAQs
How much does counselling cost in Calgary?
In Calgary, counselling fees typically range between $160–$235 per 50-minute session, based on the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta’s recommended fee schedule. At Solasta, fees may vary depending on the therapist and service type, and we’ll always review costs with you before booking. We also offer sessions with counselling interns at a reduced rate, making therapy more accessible if cost is a concern.
Is counselling covered by Alberta Health Care or insurance?
Alberta Health Care does not cover counselling in private practice. However, we offer direct billing to select insurance providers — contact us to confirm whether your plan is included. Many clients are also reimbursed through extended health benefits after paying at the time of session. Coverage varies between plans — some cover registered psychologists only, others include registered provisional psychologists and counsellors. We recommend calling your provider before your first session and asking specifically what’s covered and what your annual limit is. We provide receipts after every session for direct submission to your insurer.
What happens on the free consultation call?
The free 20-minute consultation call is a no-pressure conversation with the therapist you’ve selected — nothing to prepare, nothing to decide beforehand. You’ll have a chance to share a little about what’s brought you to therapy or what assessment you’re considering, ask any questions, and get a feel for whether it’s the right fit. There’s no obligation to book after the call.
How long do assessments take, and what do they cost?
Assessment length and cost depend on what’s being assessed. As a guide: adult autism assessments typically involve 2–3 sessions plus report writing and take 4–6 weeks from start to report; adult ADHD assessments are usually 1–2 sessions; child psychoeducational assessments vary based on the referral questions involved. Fees are discussed in full during your free consultation call before anything is booked — no surprises. Assessment fees are not covered by Alberta Health Care but may be partially reimbursable through extended health benefits depending on your plan.
What types of therapy do you offer?
We offer a wide range of evidence-based therapies including individual counselling, couples counselling, child and teen therapy, EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT, Gottman Method, and Emotion-Focused Therapy, as well as psychological assessments for ADHD, autism, and learning differences. Each therapist brings unique specialties — our team page will help you find the right fit for your goals.
Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Yes. We offer both in-person sessions at our NW Calgary office (Suite 200, 1716 16 Ave NW — free parking behind the building) and secure virtual sessions across Alberta. Online counselling is a flexible option if you live outside Calgary, have a busy schedule, or simply prefer to attend from home. Both formats are equally effective for most concerns.
Located in Calgary (on 16th Ave NW – opposite North Hill Centre and two minutes from SAIT), we support individuals across Alberta, with in-person therapy in our NW Calgary offices and secure virtual care province-wide. Free 90-minute parking behind the building.
